The Area

The surrounding countryside is predominantly farmland with the sherry vineyards of Jerez to the north. A short distance from Conil, a picturesque Andalucian seaside town with white walls and narrow cobbled streets - a true 'Pueblo Blanco' with 362 bars, restaurants and cafes, along with a stunning 16 kilometre stretch of coastline. Very popular with the Spanish with far fewer foreign tourists than the coastal resorts on the Mediterranean part of AndalucĂa.

The beautiful and historic towns of Jerez and Cadiz are within 30  minutes of Roche as are many stunning hilltop villages, such as Arcos and Vejer. The old town of Cadiz is a particular treat, often overlooked by its more famous neighbours it's faded glory is truly atmospheric.

Seville is just over an hour away with Granada and Cordoba approximately 3 hours from Roche. Tarifa, the wind surfing and extreme sports capital of Europe, is a short drive away for those hardy enough to endure the renowned winds, the town itself is also well worth a visit. There is a wide choice of restaurants from the gourmet establishments in the larger towns, notably the seafood restaurants of Puerto de Santa Maria, to local beachside restaurants in Conil and Roche itself. The Fontanilla restaurant on the edge of Conil is a particular favourite and very much a local institution. The area is famous for its Ceramic shops and Garden-Centers. There are regular day trips to Tangiers, Morocco from Algeceiras and Tarifa.

The area is famous for its golf courses with a variety to choose from, including the highly regarded San Roque Golf Course designed by Seve Ballesteros, a short drive away.
